The last time Lakshya Sen turned up for the Syed Modi International in 2019nice88, he suffered a second round defeat to South Korea's former world number 1, in straight games. The next two editions of the Super 300 level in the BWF calendar were cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and when it returned in 2022, Sen withdrew. Last November, the youngster pulled out. Sen is ready to make amends. The 23-year-old from Almora started his campaign 13th edition of the Syed Modi International with a comfortable win against Malaysian qualifier Aidil Sholeh, in straight games (21-12, 21-12).
The Paris Olympics semi-finalists will face another Malaysian, Daniil Dubovenko, for a place in the third round where he could possibly meet compatriot Meiraba Luwang Maisnam, who takes on Nhat Nguyen of Vietnam.
